 Question

What happens to the soul after it is departed from the body?

 Sri Sri Swamiji's Response

"If someone commits suicide to escape trifle worldly issues, it is indeed pitiable and deplorable. This is because the soul undergoes unbearable pain until their 'karma' on earth comes to an end.
Such a soul roams around and tries to catch other weak people and trouble them. Those people who practice black magic deploy these roaming sprits for their mundane and sinister needs. Exactly the same thing happens, if someone dies in an accident or account of murder etc. I have witnessed this myself.

The rest go to 'Pitru Lokas' and wait to be born once again on Earth. There are a lot of heavens and hells described in Srimad Bhagavatam which the souls experience accordingly.

While the soul experiences the benefits of the merits ('punya') in the heaven or the hells for their sins, it is sent back to earth for re-birth if there is balance 'karma' to undergo. However, there is absolutely no assurance that it will be a human birth again. Human birth is the rarest of the rarest and it can take yugas and yugas to get one.

There are some higher 'lokas' like Satya loka, Brahma loka etc., which can be attained only by penances and not by 'punya'.

Apart from this, the soul reaches the 'lokas' according to the Guru or God that one worships.
If a person had worshipped a devil or followed an evil master, then he goes to devil's lokas.
If 'Saguna Bhakti' was performed, a soul reaches Vaikuntam and if 'Nirguna Bhakti' was performed, the soul reaches Kaivalyam, otherwise known as Jivan Mukti or liberation.

However, if a soul is not liberated until 'pralaya', it carries over to the next cycle of creation.

So my dear children, where ever you are, you are all my children. I beseech you, falling in your feet with love and request you to chant the Maha Mantra to come out of this cycle of births and deaths.

Enroll your name with Nama Dwaar, and I will chant on your behalf and ensure that the you will be liberated!"

with Guru's grace it reaches the VIGUNDAM

Based on the vasanas (latent impressions of thoughts) it attains the place or world that deems it fit according to sanathana dharma. Since all vasanas are destroyed just by chanting the Lord's name once, who ever chants the same at the last moment of their life, they attain liberation.

If the cause of death is not natural, the soul wanders everywhere without peace until the date on which the real destiny arrives. If the cause is natural, the soul takes an invisible form & goes to heaven or hell to suffer or enjoy according to his sins & good deeds. But this is only temporary & the soul is assured of a re-birth again & again until the soul gets the permanent solution. The permanent solution could be of attaining the lotus feet of the god.

Mr.R...

This is a million dollar question! Broadly, there are three opinions. The Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh scriptures advocate rebirth and reincarnation, whereas Islam and Christianity do not prescribe to that. The soul attains God and face the judgment day. Scientifically, with death the journey ends and there ends the story. There is no God and nothing happens after death. Which is correct?

Balu...

The KARMA is the very determining factor. It depends on the state of the body and the attitude of the person, while and when its departing. If the death is natural, and the man is extremely good, it attains the state of eternal. Else, wandering until its time period gets over. It re-enters into another body and this cycle keeps continuing until it completes its time.

according to the merit(punya) & demerits(papa) soul reaches different loka designated by shastra. BUT BY GRACE OF GURUJI AND GREAT MASTERS YOU GET VAIKUNTAM

M.V...

Soul that has departed with Gurus Grace attain the place - Vaikundam, koloham, kaivalyam.... however desired by the Guru. In other cases soul takes the bad/good vasanas/thought while departing to take rebirth as per the vasanas to suffer or enjoy its karmas done in the past lives.

Sures..

jaya gurudeva
It depends on the Soul
If the Soul is of that of a Atma Gnani it merges into the Atma Swaroopa or the Parabrahmam since he has already realised his self.
If the soul is of a Bhaktha it reaches the abode of his IShta Devatha.
If the soul is of a unconditioned person it has to go through all process given in garuda purana and then according to his punya and paapam(merits and demerits) he shall be born as any one of the 84 lakh species of life existing in earth.
If it is of a Sishya (of a Atma gnani) then the soul gets enjoined to his guru's feet.
Mostly all other souls are cleansed in hell or enjoy the fruits of punya in heaven and again are sent back to earth. This is because every soul is sent to earth to attain the supreme. When he fails in that but performs wordly deeds he gets the result of those deeds only and not parama patham.
so once again he is sent back to attain god.

Dines...

The soul which departs from one body occupies another body as stated by Lord Sri Krishna in Bagavatgeeta

TS.AJE...

BY THE GRACE OF DIVINE MOTHER AFTER DEPARTED FROM THE BODY THE SOUL WILL ATTAIN TO THE DIVINE MOTHER.

Kovoo...

The soul will be floating in the space until it gets a suitable rebirth source (if it is again a human rebirth, then a suitable parents, place & position) according to its karma.

Sriku...

Sriram jayram
It depends upon the life he lived,Bcoz if he had helped and served others he will get gods grace and reaches gods feet,if he is a egoiest and non helping person he will have a other life.and if he died of peace he will reach sorgam other wise his soul remain as invisible and rounds the earth

Venka...

The soul is nothing but magnetic wave. Our desires gave coating to it. According to the weight of the coating (desires at the time of death) the soul will survive in the earth. It may be at a crowded trees area or at a water filled area. So that Our shastras and our grand people restricted us not to go at mid-day and mid-nights. If a person with the same desires goes nearby the soul it will mingled with him. It encourages him to finish the desires. After the desires fulfilled the soul\'s coating (desires) released the soul will mingled with the space which is beyond the universe. Examples of such soul attachments are a five year old boy telling the thirukkural without any mistake, music tallent without a teacher, a young boy telling his past birth ...etc.

CV Ram...

If the person had chanted Maha Mantra or had been very dedicated to SatGuru, then soul will go straight to vaikuntam or the equivalent based on their faith (even if the person had commited sins and no matter what the cause of the death was!) but if the person had wasted his life time not chanting maha mantra or not serving SatGuru then he will be caught in the whirl pool of births and deaths (taking the forms of tree, animal ,fish whatever based on Satvik, Rajasic and Tamasic guna) and if the person when alive had done some Good things/ Sin things then he might get to visit Heaven/ Hell according before taking the next birth...

Sooryan...

If the person had a genuine master before his death and had followed his maters instructions then the master will take him to a higher plane that he deems fit for his disciple. If not yama\'s messengers will take him to yama loka where his past karmas are viewed which will determine his next plane of existence before he takes another birth.

vigne...

if it was a devoted soul it would never leave the presence of its guru and there is no more doubt of its further course as it does not leave the guru's holy feet.

Vasan...

Based on the vasanas and sins / punyas of the person, there is a chance of rebirth. In case the person had been ordained into nama by a Guru, by the Guru's grace, all his vasanas dissappear and the soul reaches the highest state.

radhe krishna...
this is very subjective depending upon the karmas...as far as my knowledge is concerned, a soul reachs god after, an year after man\'s death...its way is full of darkness and thats why we light, some lights(like kerosene light) continuously for first 10 days after death in order to show its way...we dont perform any functions for 1 year also for the same reason(that it takes 1 yr. to reach god)...and after it reaches god, he gives rebirth according to its karma...

G.Kris...

The soul will remain there for about 10 days in growing budha sareeram and in the 11 th day it begains the journy to the yamalogam and it reaches there in 10months according to our calculation. and according to the badand punnya karma it enjous hell and heaven and it goes to the pithrulogam and stay there for the suitable time for the rebirth.

It is incorrect to believe that God has a special preference for any one language. Numerous devotees have sung and spoken to the Lord in their respective native languages and won His grace.
