Every creature, from the tiny ant to man, is only in search of joy. The ant rushes towards sugar only for attaining that joy; and, the thief also thieves only for attaining that joy. It is verily the same joy that people search for in educational qualifications, posts, things, fame and relationships. And everyone desires that joy to be unsullied without any trace of sorrow and to be eternal.
On the contrary the happiness earned through mundane worldly things is ephemeral and tinged with sorrow. For example, taking up the case of earning money one suffers until one earns enough money and later in trying to safeguard it. What then to speak of the sorrow
suffered if that money were lost! Therefore, eternal joy can never be earned from transitory worldly matters. Eternal joy without a tinge of sorrow is earned only through attaining that eternal, blissful Lord.
It is eternal bliss that all creatures seek. Therefore, all of them, knowingly or unknowingly, are in search of that blissful Supreme Being. Our Scriptures say that attaining that blissful state is verily Liberation [Mukti]. From this it
is apparent that the only aim of all creatures is Liberation.
Another way of looking at it is – The reason for the creation of this amazing world by the compassionate Lord is to provoke deep admiration in us about the creator of this wonderful world and to strive to attain Him. That is, creation has come about to help us attain eternal bliss. Instead, we are running towards worldly matters!
We tire of a work very quickly if it fails to produce the desired result. But the Lord, out of His compassion for us, does not tire but repeatedly creates the world to help us attain Liberation!
Further, the Lord, the architect of this wonderful creation, wishes to draw the attention of the ‘jivas’ towards Him. The Lord desires—wouldn’t the ‘jivas’ wonder ‘Oh, who is the omnipotent creator of this extraordinary creation?’ yearn and strive to attain Him?
We tire of a work very quickly if it fails to produce the desired result. But the Lord, out of His compassion for us [the ‘jivas’] who are asleep in darkness during the great deluge, offers a body and thus the opportunity to attain Him. He does not tire even when we fail to attain Him but repeatedly creates the world to help us attain Liberation!
