|रसं||which is juicy;|
|अमृतद्रवसंयुतं||which consists of nectarine droplets;|
|भुवि गलितं||which has descended in this world|
|निगमकल्पतरो:||from the Kalpaka tree (wish-yielding tree) in the form of the Vedas|
|शुक मुखात्||and which has slipped from the mouth of the divine Suka|
|आलयं||until you attain liberation !|

Those endowed with a soft-heart, capable of understanding and grasping the real essence !
Drink (enjoy) again and again the fruit of Bhagavatam which is juicy; which consists of nectarine droplets; which has descended in this world from the Kalpaka tree (wish-yielding tree) in the form of the Vedas and which has slipped from the mouth of the divine Suka until you attain liberation !
This verse is a call to those who are great connoisseurs (Rasikas) and filled with divine emotions and those Bhavukas- who are sensitive to the subtleties of devotional moods!
This verse indicates that Bhagavatam is not for the dry, hard-hearted ones who are mundane and who always have an end in their view. It is only for the soft-hearted ones.
In this verse Bhagavatam has been described as a ripened juicy fruit in the tree of Vedas. We generally plant trees only to enjoy its fruits. People even neglect trees which are fruitless. So, the Vedas have found their fructification in the Bhagavatam.
The wish-yielding tree is one which grants any desire. The Vedas are compared to it because one can attain any desired result from the Vedas. From such a tree has sprung this fruit of Bhagavatam and hence can be boldly be proclaimed as the very purport of Vedas. Hence Bhagavatam also fulfills any desire.
How can we substantiate the stand that the Bhagavatam is the fruit of Vedas –Tree ? Sri Swamiji answers- “Vyasa, meaning’ compiler’, got this name only after he compiled the infinite Vedas. By the very fact that he himself has declared that the Bhagavatam is the fruit of Vedas, this stands substantiated. Swamiji moreover says-“Not only of the Vedas, but the Bhagavatam is also the very essence of all the Puranas, Dharma Shastras, etc. Veda Vyasa wrote Mahabharata consisting of 18 Parvas. In it he wrote the Gita, with 18 chapters. The Dharma Shastras are also 18 in number. After all this Vyasa had to write the 18th purana ‘Bhagavata’ with 18,000 slokas to attain mental peace. By this specific number ‘18,000’, Vyasa seems to indicate that this last work of his contains all the essence of his afore-said works.”
This fruit is quite different from others. It has no seeds, no part to be discarded or thrown. It has nothing but juice (essence) alone, because of which Vyasa says- “पिबत!" Drink this fruit “instead of saying "भुङ्क्ष्व"- Eat this fruit”.
This fruit has slipped from the mouth of holy sage Suka. Now, Suka also means parrot. Here is a pun on this word Suka. It is known that a parrot chooses to peck only a juicy ripe, tasty fruit and nothing less. Hence the sweetness of Bhagavata stands revealed by the very fact that Sri Suka, the divine parrot takes delight in tasting it. Sri Swamiji says – “Yet another notable feature of a parrot is that it repeats verbatim whatever is taught to it. Similarly Suka has reproduced the ideas of his father and master, Vyasa, Verbatim without interpolating any of his own ideas.”
Hence this Bhagavatam which has slipped down from the mouth of Sri Suka is said to be the holy ucchishta (remnants of food leaf/plate) of sage Suka. Ucchishta of saints is said to be a Maha prasada as they have the potency to bestow devotion (Bhakthi), dispassion (Vairagya) and knowledge (Jnana) on those who partake of it.
“Those who read the Bhagavatam today are extremely fortunate for not only Suka, but innumerable Maha Bhagavatas, who have incarnated on earth till date, have tasted its essence.”-says Swamiji. Hence it is called ‘परं उच्छिष्ठं’
This Bhagavatam has descended on earth and it is being handed over from one generation to another through a long lineage (Parampara) of great Jnanis and Gurus.
This Bhagavatam is said to contain nectarine droplets full of bliss in the form of stories extolling the glories of the Lord and his devotees. This Purana is अमृत (nectar) itself in the sense that it bestows the state of deathlessness (अमृतत्वं) full of eternal bliss on those who read it.
Hence oh ! Listeners ! Listen to and enjoy this Purana again and again until you reach the highest state of oneness with the Lord’s Lotus feet.
