   Dravida Veda Patashala in Thirunangur

Thirunangur is famous for the numerous Divya Desams (temples sung by Azhwars) in Tamil Nadu. Located next to Sirgazhi, this divine town is a seat of Bhakti.  The great Vaishnava saint (king who turned saint) Tirumangai Azhwar is said to have been born here and has sung many a temple here.  The annual eleven-Garuda Sevai festival  is a popular event which is attended by thousands of devotees across the country and abroad.

Many of these Divya Desams have been consecrated in the recent past under the auspices of Sri Sri Swamiji, Arimeya Vinnagaram,Sri Van Purushottaman Temple, Tiruthettriambalam, Semponsei Koil, Tiruvali to name a few.

On October 26th 2001, Srimati Jayanti Janakiraman Memorial Dravida Veda Agama Patasala was established with the blessings of HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji.  This is established to be a unique seat of learning in the Sri Vaishnava Vedas.  The Patashala is run in a traditional ‘gurukula’ style where students permanently reside and learn the scriptures.  Scholars from different fields of learning tutor the students.

The uniqueness of the patashala is the fact that it educates the student on Vaishnava Agama Shastra as well as trains him on the ‘Dravida Veda’ – Nalayira Divya Prabhandam and Vedas.  As a part of the curriculum, regular examinations are held and grades awarded.  The students are also regularly encouraged to attend scholarly vedic ‘sadas’ (seminars / discussions) in other cities as and when they happen.
Apart from learning the scriptures, Bhakti and Bhagavata Dharma are practiced as a part of the students’ everyday life.

On April 22 this year,  a Divya Prabandha examination was held in the Patashala.  The Pariksha Adhikari was U Ve. Sri Varadhachariar, a renowned scholar and a former Adhyapak of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

All the Vidhyarthis passed with more than 75% score.  Devanathan, Sarangapani, Srinivasan and Saranathan scored  100%.  The Adhyapak was all in praise for the quality of learning.

Cut the reins. Cut them with the sword of God's name. The shackles of kala, time, are cut by KAli's name.
